Lungevity Walk for Lung Cancer

As many of you may know, our fellow CAYUGA tribe members Mark and Mathew Carlinsky lost their wife and mother respectively to a battle with non-smokers lung cancer a few years ago.  In an effort to do something about this epidemic and honor Lisa, Mark and Mathew joined the LUNGevity Foundation for their Walk & Rally to Stop Lung Cancer.  I am asking that all members set aside the morning of Saturday, November 5, 2011.

According to startling facts comprised by LUNGevity (www.lungevity.org), Lung Cancer kills almost twice as many women as breast cancer and more than twice as many men as prostate cancer; it impacts one in 14 Americans and is the number-one cancer killer; 65% of Americans diagnosed with it are non-smokers or never-smokers; and if it is caught before it spreads, the chances for survival improve to over 60%.

Members of the Big Teepee Federation can do their part in this cause, by donating to the Lungevity foundation. Read more about Lisa's story at www.lungevity.org/carlinsky, you can join his team, register to walk, or make a donation. The Big Teepee Federation has set a goal of $1,000 in honor of Lisa Carlinsky. If it helps, the suggested minimum donation is $20. Thank you for your support.

This year, the Big Teepee Federation, in partnership with Indian Prairie School District 204 will provide gifts to families suffering financially. This is a great opportunity to teach what it means to "give back" to the children in your tribe.

Gifts will be collected and distributed thoughout District 204 schools. The Big Teepee Federation is collecting both toys, as well as gift cards. The need for retail cards, food cards and even gas cards is large.

Please keep gifts to a threshold cost of under $40 per child.

Contact Russell at 630-585-2207 for more information on this great service opporunity. All gifts or gift cards must be delivered to the YMCA Sports Complex (formely the Field House Family YMCA) by December 10th, 2010 for distribution.

Thank you for your support, let's make a difference in the lives these children this holiday season!
