First Steps

What should new tribes be doing now? They should be having a dad's meeting. At this meeting the dads decide on what day of the week to meet and plan the first guides/princesses meeting. This is a perfect time to try to plan all of the guides/princesses meetings for the remainder of the year. Meeting locations (whose house? when?) can be determined.

New Member Packets

If you weren't able to attend the new member orientation you can pick up a New Member Packet at the YMCA - Kroehler Family Center facility (call Shane Loy at 630-355-2559 to make sure your packet is ready). The packet contains headbands, patches, and a New Member Guide.

New Member Guide

The New Member Guide contains a wealth of information that will help orient you to the Y-Guide and Y-Princess programs. It explains about Longhouse Meetings, monthly events, and our premiere events, the campouts. Click here to peruse online or print it out: New Member Guide.

Tribal Vests

New members need to order a tribal vest (dad and child) which is used to display all of the badges earned. Vests can be ordered through CQ Industries at 477 W. Fullerton, Elmhurst, IL. Their number is 1-800-537-2824. A traditional felt vest runs about $12 for a child and about $14 for a dad. Letters for the tribe name run about 25 cents each. They now accept Visa and Mastercard.

Visit their website at www.thepatchstore.com. CQ does not have a store front. Although they will allow drop-in visitors, they would prefer phone or fax orders. Please be sure to give them a call first if you feel you need to visit.

Longhouse Meetings

It is very important that each tribe send a representative to each Longhouse meeting. The deadline for most of the events coincides with the Longhouse meetings. Also, additional and updated information concerning upcoming events is discussed at the Longhouse meetings.

Mentors

If a tribe would like assistance from an experienced dad or tribe please contact your Nation Chief or any of the council members.

Got another question or problem?

Please call your mentor or anyone on the council. We have probably already "been there, done that!" You can also find some good sites on the Web. See the Related Links page for crafts ideas, and useful links to Native American history sites.
